Momotaro (The Peach Boy)
Long ago, an old man and an old woman lived in a small village.
One day, the old woman found a giant peach floating down the river. When they opened it, a baby boy came out. They named him
Momotaro, which means “Peach Boy.”
When Momotaro grew up, he decided to defeat the evil ogres living on Ogre Island. Along the way, he became friends with a dog, a monkey, and a pheasant by sharing his special millet dumplings.
Together, they defeated the ogres and brought the stolen treasure back to the village.
Momotaro returned home as a hero, and everyone lived happily ever after.
Urashima Taro
Long ago, a kind fisherman named Urashima Taro rescued a turtle from some children.
The turtle took him to the beautiful Dragon Palace under the sea. He spent several happy days there with the princess.
When Urashima Taro decided to return home, the princess gave him a mysterious box and told him, “Please do not open this box.”
Back in his village, many years had passed, and everything had changed. Feeling sad and lonely, he opened the box.
A white cloud came out, and Urashima Taro instantly became an old man.
This story reminds us that time never stops and that we should treasure the present.
The Grateful Crane
Long ago, a kind man rescued an injured crane.
A few days later, a young woman came to his house. They fell in love and got married.
The woman said, “Please do not look into my room while I am weaving.” She worked hard and made beautiful cloth to help the family.
One day, the man became curious and looked inside. He saw that the woman was actually the crane, using her own feathers to weave the cloth.
Because he broke his promise, the crane had to leave.
The man thanked her for her kindness, and the crane flew away into the sky.
This story teaches us the importance of kindness, gratitude, and keeping our promises.
